Sometimes referred to as a Negative Emissions Technology (NET), DAC employs chemical or physical processes to extract CO2 from the ambient (still) air. The captured CO2 can then be stored deep underground or used in various products and applications (typically in long-lasting materials such as concrete or plastic). A key innovation for reducing carbon in the atmosphere, DAC is often powered by low or zero carbon energy sources such as geothermal, wind, or solar. The removal time period of these projects is 1,000 years or more.
