Cloverly is thrilled to share that we have partnered with Project Bison by CarbonCapture Inc. to bring their direct air capture (DAC) credits to market. The project, slated to be rolled out over multiple phases through 2030, consists of a partnership between CarbonCapture Inc. and Frontier Carbon Solutions, a carbon storage developer. It is set to revolutionize carbon removal by deploying CarbonCapture’s advanced DAC modules atop Frontier’s CO₂ transportation and storage infrastructure. Project Bison aims to remove five million metric tons of atmospheric CO₂ annually by 2030, showcasing a significant scale-up in carbon capture technology.
Direct air capture technology works by filtering carbon dioxide (CO₂) directly out of the atmosphere using specialized materials that bind selectively to CO₂. CarbonCapture’s innovative approach utilizes solid sorbent capture materials, which are regenerated by heat after CO₂ capture, allowing continuous reuse. Powered by zero-emission energy sources, these systems represent a sustainable advancement in carbon removal.
Wyoming was selected as the project site due to its rich renewable and zero-carbon energy resources and favorable regulatory environment, essential for the success of innovative projects like Bison. This initiative not only supports the local economy by creating new jobs but also plays a crucial role in the state’s broader energy strategy, which includes CO₂ sequestration hubs.
Project Bison stands out as the first massively scalable DAC project in the United States and the inaugural facility to utilize Class VI injection wells for permanent CO₂ storage. This marks a critical development in the scalability of direct air capture technology.
